“Job Security” Does Not Exist…

If you think you have “Job Security” and your employer can never lay you off or downsize the company, I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn…

We are in 2022. This is not the old days when our grandparents worked at the same employer for 40 years, and they retired they received a nice pension, and gold watch, and walked off into the sunset to enjoy their “Golden Years”.

We are in a new economy.

An economy that revolves around capitalism.

Even though nothing is wrong with capitalism, you just have to understand that these employers don’t give a damn about you.

They care about what you can produce for them and how much you can add to the company so they can generate more revenue. Nothing more. Nothing less…

As far as I’m concerned, the only advantage of working a job is getting a steady paycheck every 2 weeks.

At least knowing when your paycheck is going to come will put your mind at ease, knowing you can pay the bills and any other expenses you have in your life.

The Major Disadvantage...

The major disadvantage to working a job is that your employer can implement layoffs or fire you anytime they want.

Hence why the term “job security” does not exist anymore…

Millions of Americans worry about if they will have a job tomorrow, and it’s driving them crazy.

There have been many layoffs as of lately in 2022. The most well-known companies that are laying off their staff are Coinbase, Bed Bath & Beyond, Peloton, Tesla, Microsoft, Twitter, and the list goes on…

These people that worked for these companies thought they had “job security” and they thought they would be working there forever…

But fate proved otherwise…

Look, even though job security is non-existent, there are a few ways you can prepare yourself, come out ahead, and beat these companies at their own game.

How to Prepare

The first thing that you want to do is not to stay loyal to the company you work for.

Always network with other people outside of work, apply for other higher-paying job opportunities, and build up your skills so you can be a valuable applicant in the job market.

Please understand your job is to produce, make as much money as you can, and when the next high-paying opportunity comes knocking at your door, you take it.

The next thing is not to do any more work than what’s required of you.

You (probably) won’t get any special accolades or a substantial raise, so don’t take on any extra work or special projects unless your boss is compensating you with extra money to complete them.

The next step is if you are offered a new job that pays more, gives good benefits and you are satisfied with the overall package & situation that is being offered to you, take it, and don’t look back.

Don’t feel guilty about leaving your current employer because if your employer loses a lot of revenue in a fiscal quarter, they wouldn’t think twice about letting you go!

Leave your current job and take the new one, and always keep in the back of your head that loyalty does not exist in the corporate world anymore.

It’s a dog eats dog world.

Last but not least, you should always have multiple streams of income.

Whether it’s driving for Uber on the weekends, selling items on eBay or Amazon, collecting rental income from rental properties, etc, never let your job be the only source of income you have because you can lose it any day and be SOL (sh*t out of luck).

At least with the other streams of income coming in, you will have money coming in like clockwork until you find another job.

Or your multiple streams of income might provide you with enough money to do it full-time!

That’s all for now. I’m glad you read through my entire rant.

I truly hope you learned the truth about “Job Security” in today’s economy. Because when I hear it, it really burns through my soul and makes me cringe.
